Future food development
The Foodvalley region houses one of the leading research centres in the world in the field of agro-food and nutrition. Wageningen University & Research is the best in the world when it comes to agriculture and forestry (QS World Universities Ranking 2016). The University's Wageningen Food & Biobased Research is a contract research organisation that works together with companies, government authorities and other knowledge institutes. They cooperate within bilateral projects as well as public-private partnerships.
Health & High Tech
High-tech healthcare plays an important role in the region. With 50,000 direct jobs in medicine and medical technology, the medical sector is the largest industry in Nijmegen as well as being an essential component in the regional knowledge economy. Health Valley Netherlands and Radboudumc are important partners in this area.
Energy, environment and sustainable innovations
Arnhem has great affinity with innovation and technology and how these relate to energy production, the environment and sustainability. In 2019, our province of Gelderland is one of three European Entrepreneurial Regions of the year ándwon the award for most entrepreneurial region in the European Union. This is mainly thanks to the innovative solutions that are geared towards creating a 'green' economy. The HAN University of Applied Sciences also plays a big part in this area.
